Industry doesn’t want knowledge, but know-how
We have no dearth of opportunity in this country.
Barely ten years ago the situation was very different. At that time the gap was in opportunity. But today there is no dearth of “opportunity”, there is a gap in “capability”. There is no dearth of “graduates”, but there is a gap in terms of peoples’ “capacity to deliver”.
Academia is sending out large numbers of people who know many things, but what industry seems to want is not “knowledge” but “know-how”. They want people who can translate that knowledge into solutions, into quick thinking, into finding new responses to the competitive challenges that industries face.
